Diana Halpenny, Spiritual Life Center/Journey Farthest Out presents "The Power of Love". As a little girl growing up in the Methodist Church in Novato, I was taught that Jesus loves us, and that we are to love one another as he loved us. As I grew up, my desire was to find a spiritual community that embodied that message of love. In my work as an attorney, I saw love in action with teachers and administrators who were committed to educating children, and I also saw the harm caused by teachers who did not exemplify that love, but were instead, cruel to the helpless victims in their classes. In the mid-1990's, a friend convinced me to attend a non-denominational Christian camp with her and her family called Camps Farthest Out. I found that community I sought in an open, welcoming, helping and loving setting. Only problem was it only happened once a year. So I prayed for a church in Sacramento that carried that same open, welcoming energy, and I was led to Spiritual Life Center in 1999. Through the lessons and introspection, I learned to take the sense of love and respect for one another into my work as an attorney - not always an easy task during contentious labor negotiations. Now, my church and my camp, now called Journey Farthest Out, provide me with loving communities. That's what life is all about!
